Welcome back to another batch of Fresh Donuts! I’m pretty sure spring fever is going around right now, and I may have caught it myself. It doesn’t seem to be that bad until the temperature breaks above 60 degrees (about 16 degrees for everyone not in the states). Suddenly, I can no longer sit behind my computer and tackle my daily tasks - instead wanting to shed my winter layers and run through the grass, sniff the hyacinths, and ride my bike aimlessly down the street shouting good riddance to old man winter! Or maybe I drank too much coffee, I don’t know. Either way, enjoy these friendly proletarian frogs.
And now, an appreciation of William Steig’s book, The Amazing Bone. Like all of Steig’s books, there’s big feelings, there’s animals that want to eat you, and there are wonderful drawings and sweet moments. Honestly, the first part of this book is so delightful, I wish I was just with Pearl (the porcine protagonist) for a lovely afternoon - no conflict necessary. But alas, she quickly gets into dire trouble.
For your enjoyment I’ll include the bakery scene (one of my favorites), and the true star of the book, the abundant spring landscape.
This is a clip from Miracle Nutrition by Hearty White, via the best radio station in the world, WFMU.
To offset all of the candy colored blossoms, there’s this lovely poem (Here is our poet laureate reading it herself, if you prefer)…
Until next time! Onward and upward.
Being curious and making things is the easy part, getting people to see them is the challenge. Thanks Yiting, hope you’re enjoying the blossoms as well!
nice sharing the clip, i can resonate so much! and yes, enjoy the spring!🌸🌼🌻
