Hello friends, welcome to another batch of Fresh Donuts! The days are getting longer and old man winter is relenting – it’s a glorious time to be alive and have a little bit of hope for the coming spring.
Without further adieu, let’s check out our fuzzy pal following his bliss…
You can’t feel guilty about supporting a small business, right? That’s how I justify all my books and baked goods.
Next on the plate, is an appreciation of Zeralda’s Ogre by Tomi Ungerer. Tomi’s books make me so happy! Not only is he one of the best to wield a pen nib (IMO), but he never shies away from danger and darkness, he leans into it. (He did grow up in Nazi occupied France, after all). The very first page sets the tone for this fairy tale.
This book also has some great food spreads, which are always a delight. You’ll have to track down a copy or get it from your local library to see the rest, but I’ve been obsessed with this particular one since I first saw it. I mean, those desserts!
All this danger and hunger relates to my debut book, Duck and Cat Ride the Riverboat. You’ll have to wait until June 24th to see why, but it has to do with the dangers of hangry people (or crocodiles in my case) and the fact that no one is safe from being gobbled up. Which reminds me of one of my favorite sayings…
Lastly, I’ll leave you with my floppy eared friend, waxing poetic.
Well, until next time, keep on paddling and I hope blue skies are smiling at you… until next we meet again!
