A little introduction: My name is Drew Panckeri, and I am an artist (cue other recovering artists, “Hi Drew”). Starting in 2015 I’ve been publishing single panel cartoons in the likes of The New Yorker, Mad Magazine, Wired, and countless other magazines and websites. There have been hundreds published, but this newsletter is not about that - this is about children’s books, illustration, and desperately trying to claw an audience away from Instagram before the stench of a dying platform gets too rank. I will save any misgivings I have for Zuck, A.I., and the ruling class for private rants –
this is a space for fun, whimsy, animals that act like humans, and cakes and pastries drawn by a human hand.
What you can expect with Fresh Donuts: Comics and drawings made especially for this substack, news about my upcoming children’s books, in-person author events, process drawings and inside baseball stuff, and who knows what else? Sky’s the limit! For now there’s no schedule and no charge – lucky you!
That brings me to my first real announcement : I have redesigned my website! PanckeriCartoons.com is under new management, no more stale old website cobbled together just to have a web presence – this new version includes lots of little drawings with a focus on children’s books and illustration. This is part of a push to land more illustration gigs (here’s looking at you Art Directors!) and afford the basic necessities of life. So please, send this substack and my website to anyone who might be interested.
I will be back to talk about my debut book, Duck and Cat Ride the Riverboat next time. For now, I hope the blue skies are smiling at you… until next we meet again!
